He is a philosopher, volunteer, chef, barista, lover of the ocean, fish seller, tour guide, and teacher. He has worn many hats over the years, but they have all been connected by his passion for sustainability and his belief that life should be both fun and meaningful. I first met Lin Qun during a gathering of a club at his restaurant, and we quickly became friends. I was struck by his energy and his infectious enthusiasm for life. Lin Qun's story is one of transformation and unwavering determination. Starting as a research assistant in a university, he running a hybrid bookstore that blended his love for books and a desire to create a space for intellectual engagement. But life had other plans for him, and a shift in circumstances prompted a profound realization - he wanted his second half of life to be intimately connected to the ocean. The ocean became his muse and guiding light. He embarked on a mission to merge his passions for marine conservation, fishery services, and promoting Southeast Asian literature. This led him to convert a van into a mobile bookstore, traversing Southeast Asia to curate an eclectic collection of books while providing reading services to underserved communities. The weekends were dedicated to traveling to rural areas, extending his services to new immigrants and foreign workers. He took a decisive step forward by establishing a seaside homestay that combined water activities, second-hand books, and sustainable seafood delivery services. Mornings were dedicated to fulfilling orders, packaging fresh fish, and ensuring prompt delivery. In the afternoons, he welcomed guests, offering them a unique experience that blended adventure, relaxation, and environmental awareness. And during his precious moments of respite, he tirelessly cleaned up the beaches, embodying his conviction that the ocean's problems are his problems.
